50 Weeks to 50: Let's Celebrate!

Hello Gorgeous!! We are closing out the fabulous month of September. Beginning October 1st, I will be 50 years old in 50 weeks! I know that is so hard to believe since I look 38! 😁 To celebrate the new decade of my life, I am setting small goals each week to bring 50 in strong! These goals will affect the spiritual, health, professional, social and crafting aspects of my life. Each week, I will celebrate reaching these goals. I decided this Celebrate Everything card was perfect for this effort.

For the card panel, I used the Neenah 80lb Solar White cardstock. I used washi tape to hold the panel to my table. I bought the Heffy Doodle Numicon stencil and thought it would be perfect for this card. I lined it up over the panel and held it down with some washi. I got my Distress Oxides in Tattered Rose and Worn Lipstick. Using my blending sponges, I started with the Tattered Rose on the top third and the Worn Lipstick for the remainder of the panel. I am still getting used to the Distress Oxides and blending, but was happy with the results. I set the panel aside to dry. I washed my stencil in warm water and mild soap and set it aside to dry.

The Celebration Lady stamps and dies from the Essential by Ellen Leading Lady series is wonderful. It can be used for so many different occasions and situations.

Now, I am not an artist (by my definition) or a colorist. In the past year, I have learned about blending, shading and highlighting. Coloring is clearly more than staying inside the lines! What gives me pause is coloring various shades of skin and hair. I would love to create more items showing the diversity of this world. Some of my crafting goals during this 50 weeks will focus on helping me improve my coloring and expanding my coloring mediums. I have said all of this to say that I was extremely nervous about coloring this lady, but I cannot learn without practice.

I am comfortable with the Prismacolor Premium Colored Pencils. On Pinterest, I found a color combination that fit closely to my milk chocolate skin tone ( I love me!). The colors I used were:

Nectar PC 1092
Chocolate PC 1082
Dark Brown PC 946

Starting with Nectar, I blended it with Chocolate and Dark Brown, laying down each layer to get the desired results. I will continue to practice, but the color turned out nicely. Now on to the hair.

I watch the YouTube channel of Kelly Latevola. She is fun to listen to (she tells some of the funniest stories of her life happenings) and her coloring is amazing. One thing I like about her videos is that she lets her coloring show real time and not sped up, which helps me a lot in my learning process. From some of her videos, I am getting coloring techniques for hair. Using Black (PC 935), I colored the hair in the direction of the "flow" of the hair. I went back through each section to make the hair darker, leaving lighter sections for more highlighting. What do you think? Now my natural hair color is dark brown and gray, so I color my hair a deep fuchsia red for the grays. I am going to have to have a lot more coloring practice before I can show my true hair color!

Now that I had gotten the difficult coloring out of the way, I can focus on her clothes and accessories. All I know how to do right now is "simple" coloring, so nothing fancy here. The dress is colored using Nectar at the collar and Hot Pink (PC 993) and Metallic Silver (PC 949) for the dress. The Silver was also used on her shoes and necklace. I used the Nuvo Aqua Shimmer Glimmer Gloss Pen to add sparkle to the dress trim, shoes and necklace. The party hat was colored using the Silver and Metallic Gold ( PC 950).

I placed the lady on the card using foam squares. I stamped the "Celebrate Everything" sentiment using Versafine Onyx Black Ink and placed the party hat using the foam squares. I glued the panel to a top folding A2 card base using Art Glitter Designer glue and I am done.

I will frame this card and put in my craft room for inspiration and encouragement.

I have linked many of the items below that I have used. I do not receive any compensation for these link. I just want to show you all of the fabulous products used.

Thank you for stopping by. I will keep you up to date on my goal setting and accomplishments.  Please come back and visit again soon. Have a great day and Be Dazzling!

A Birthday Card for Me!!

Hello Gorgeous!

My 49th birthday was a couple of weeks ago.  🎉I know that is hard to believe since I look 38! 😃As a part of my celebration, I decided to make a birthday card for myself. What a way to start out the last of my 40s!

I love the Blueprints line from My Favorite Things. I recently bought the Blueprints 27. This 8-piece set has so many possibilities. You can download sketch ideas from the MFT website that works with each set. I used one of the sketches as my guide.

My (current) favorite color combination is Navy, Blush and Silver. The largest die is what I used for my card panel. The scalloped edges are beautiful. I ran it through my Sizzix BIGkick die cutting machine on a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" piece of Navy cardstock from Recollections. The 4-window frame is cut from some Blush Pink pearl cardstock from The Paper Studio cut the same size. The final pieces measure 5 1/4" x 4 and 4 9/16" x 3 5/16", respectively.

Initially, I thought I was going to stamp some balloons in the 3 smaller windows, so I outlined the frame with a pencil on the Navy piece. The vision changed for the card so I went ahead and glued the frame panel to the Navy piece using Designer Art Glitter glue.

I used an MFT Balloon die and cut three balloons from some Silver glitter cardstock scrap. I want to use some white twine for the strings , but I did not have any on hand. Now I have a good reason to go shopping for craft supplies! 😁 Anyway, I framed out where I wanted the balloons and an held them in place with some washi. This allowed me to mark where I would gather the "strings" and used a pencil to mark the gathering point. I took a small ruler and a White 10 Gelly Roll pen and drew the "strings" from the balloon end to the marked point. I removed the washi from the panel, but kept the balloon bouquet intact. I put some foam dots on the back of the balloons and placed them on the card panel to match the placement of the "strings"

For the sentiment, I found the "Yay! It's Your Birthday" sentiment from The Stamps of Life November 2017 card kit. I prepped a piece of the navy cardstock with my powder pad and stamped the sentiment using Gina K Designs Premium Pigment Ink in White. This is my favorite white ink because it stamps so bright and crisp on almost any color. I used my mini MISTI to stamp it three times. I coated it with some Ranger Embossing Powder in White and heat set it. I cut it using the longest sentiments flag die in the Blueprints set. I cut the flag end off of the beginning of the sentiment, cleaned off the powder residue and placed it on on the prepared panel using foam dots.

I made a top folding A2 card base, 4 1/4" x 11", scored at 5 1/2" with my Teflon bone folder. For the inside, I used the following sentiment from The Stamps of Life October 2017 card kit with Gina K Designs Premium Dye Ink in In The Navy: "May your birthday be filled with enough laughs and good times to last you all year!" Under it, I placed a die cut of a string of circles with heart cutouts cut form the Blush Pink pearlized cardstock. This die came from the Sizzix Mini Circle Flip-It. It is off center because there was a smudge that I could not remove , so I hid it 😃

I placed the panel on my card base using my Xyron 1/2" tape runner. The card still did not look finished so I cut a heart form the Blueprints set and placed it on the middle balloon. The tiny heart cutouts form the circle string came in handy to add a bit to each frame.

I had a couple of boo-boos: I did not position the sentiment flag well so you can see my mistake in one of the strings and I did not line the balloons up correctly with the last string. They were minor to me and I think the card still looks great!

I have listed below most of the items I have used and supplied links for most of them. The links are not affiliated; I am just sharing the fabulous products used!
